The majority of units are assessed through coursework, group and individual projects, portfolios, essays, presentations or exams. Constant feedback and advice from a supervisory or unit team will be provided to support you in your work. At level 4 you are assessed on your understanding of the fundamental concepts of computing and digital technologies and their application. For example, you will learn about digital design and content creation for animation as well as introductory programming, and interactive development. You should also be able to demonstrate the inter-relationships between technical development and design. At level 6 you will be required to demonstrate independent thinking and initiative.

  • You will also learn about computer communication networks and game distribution, as well as how to implement artificial intelligence.
  • In this module, students will study core algorithms and data structures, as well as being given an introduction to algorithm analysis and basic computability.
  • On the course, you will learn a range of technical and professional skills, including understanding fundamentals and advanced coding practices, graphics programming, network communications and artificial intelligence.
  • Assignments are split into two separate semesters which are designed to build up the necessary skills required to create assets independently without the need for tutorials.
  • A key element to your success in this course is having access to the most up to date hardware and software for game design and creation.
  • We understand that you might have experienced a challenging run up to higher education and may have not met the entry requirements as listed.

The following is an indicative list of option modules available on this programme. Work is done either in small teams, on a selected individual research project, or as part of an internship/placement. This module covers the basics of 3d modelling, texturing, rigging and animation.

In order to help you develop these types of skills the module will be delivered using a problem based learning approach. Annual and modular tuition fees shown are applicable to the first year of study. The core modules deep-dive into 2D and 3D graphics rendering, physics, artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction required for the development of high-end computer games platforms….

Ma Independent Games And Playable Experience Design

You will undertake practical exercises in which you will evaluate real-world problems to identify user experience issues. You will utilise the synthesis of data from methods which explore user needs and requirements and also users’ cognitive models to build a suite of artefacts eg. Personas, user journeys, empathy maps etc which will inform a prototyping phase. This process involves iteratively building on low, medium and high fidelity prototypes of increasing complexity and levels of iteration. Thus you will synthesise theory and empirical data to build prototypes of a redesign solution to usability issues. These artefacts will iteratively and incrementally inform a user centred design.
