Student-led by you and other students, like small group work and presentations. This information is likely to change slightly for 2022 entry as our plans evolve. You’ll receive full information on your teaching before you start your course.

This course is specially designed to bridge the gap between electronics/hardware engineering and computer science/software engineering. The course covers most aspects of software while focusing on the advanced hardware design based on FPGA and system design based on microcontroller. International Pathway Courses are specialist programmes designed for international students who want to study in the UK. We provide a range of study options for international students in partnership with INTO.

Operating Systems focuses on the internal structure of modern multi-tasking operating systems. The module explores the techniques used in order to efficiently manage the resources of computer systems and provide protection to these resources and its users. The hardware/software interfaces and the levels of abstractions are studied in detail. Embedded Systemsintroduces you to the principles of embedded systems as essential tools for enabling many other advanced technologies that we see or experience around us. The basics of the hardware and software unique to microcontrollers, as core components of embedded systems, are introduced.

  • You will enjoy regular tutorial contact with academic staff, and you will be assessed by a variety of techniques including individual or group coursework assessment, laboratory experimentation, analysis and synthesis tasks, and tests.
  • There’s a strong emphasis on mathematics and computing, including learning the C and Python programming languages.
  • The programme will help you develop the confident interpersonal and communication skills, problem-solving and teamwork skills required by the industry.
  • Students would be expected to pay for their own prescription safety glasses (approx. £90+) if they choose to purchase them.

Produce electronic and computer engineers with specialist skills in hardware and software engineering, prepared for the complexities of modern electronic and computer system design. EU students can get country-specific information about the University’s entry requirements and equivalent national qualifications at/eu. This module provides an introduction to digital processor organisation, architecture, instruction set architectures and system organisation/design. It also provides elements on the underlying computer arithmetic and approaches to design . The module then considers an important application area, looking at the fundamental concepts, underlying mathematics, design methodologies and techniques. This module is part of a series of Level Two modules designed for the particular group of engineers shown in brackets in the module title.

You will develop an understanding of the theoretical problems, for example behaviour and basics of learning techniques, inherent in robotics and use pre-built robots to design, implement and test different control and perceptual systems. You will develop your expertise in various aspects of robotic programming, including using multi-sensors to collect environmental measurements, designing control strategies and making smart decisions by finding optimal solutions. The Faculty-wide Engineering – You’re Hired Week is a compulsory part of the second year programme, and the week has been designed to develop student academic, transferable and employability skills. Working in multi-disciplinary groups of about six, students will work in interdisciplinary teams on a real world problem over an intensive week-long project.

This is one of the most recognisable international engineering qualifications. Have a look at our careers page for an overview of all the employability support and opportunities that we provide to current students. We offer a range of international undergraduate scholarships for high-achieving international scholars who can put their Nottingham degree to great use in their careers.

Gain the specialist skills you need to succeed in the dynamic, fast-growing field of computer engineering. You’ll be prioritised for accommodation in the halls that are linked to your teaching base, subject to availability. Over 900 students live here in our halls, Moulsecoomb Place and the new Mithras halls – Brunswick, Goldstone, Hanover, Preston and Regency. You will need to budget between £5–£50 to exhibit work for the end-of-year show. Fundraising by the student society, BIAAS, normally helps towards this cost.
