Our programmes put you in control, giving you the skills to lead and undertake complex engineering projects and providing you with the experiences you need to succeed in the industry. Whilst the grades listed here are our entry requirements, we understand that predicted grades are only an estimate. We will therefore consider applicants with predicted grades of CCC if the application is of a high standard which includes a strong personal statement and academic reference. Our entry requirements provide a guide to the qualifications that you’ll need to study our courses. We have a personalised admissions approach and we make fair but aspirational offers.

Others are assessed through a combination of coursework and end of semester examinations. Details of how each module is assessed are shown in the Student Handbook which is provided to all students during their first year induction. Introduce basic information about new topics as a starting point for further self-directed private study/reading. Lectures also provide opportunities to ask questions, gain some feedback and advice on assessments .

Access & Outreach

Adopt a holistic approach to using computer hardware and software technology in a commercial context. This course will be assessed using a variety of methods which could vary depending on the module. Assessment methods include formal examinations, coursework, tests, portfolios, practical or project work, group work, demonstrations, presentations and posters. This module represents an introduction to the wide field of machine learning. Placements provide you with the opportunity to learn technical skills in a ‘live’ work environment. They can also lead to permanent positions with your placement company upon graduation, as Surbhi reveals.

This module brings together the underlying physical principles of BJT, JFET and MOSFET devices to show how structural decisions in device design affect performance as a circuit element. Basic circuit topologies such as long – tailed pairs, Darlington transistors and current mirrors are described as a precursor to exploring the internal design of a typical op-amp. The relationship between device structure and performance in simple CMOS circuits is explored and applied to real digital circuit applications. Digital system design strategies are introduced with examples drawn from everyday embedded digital systems. This module introduces the basic building blocks of non-trivial computational processes by providing the knowledge required to select and implement appropriate data structures and algorithms. The understanding of the limits of computation for a given problem is developed using a range of examples.

You will be introduced to the concepts and operating principles of optical communication systems and networks and the devices that underpin them. Electrical and electronic engineers are often required to analyse and solve the problems they encounter. This module introduces you to the underpinning technologies for the conditioning, control and conversion of electrical energy. Our world relies on reliable and secure electricity supplies, this module will introduce you to the concepts and challenges faced in generating traditional and renewable electrical energy.

The first year is shared with our Electrical and Electronic Engineering course. You will explore fundamental electronic engineering topics including engineering concepts, digital electronics, and mathematics. You’ll learn with a team with an international research reputation and explore areas including computer programming,data communications,microcontrollers, digital signal processing and microprocessor systems design. For those offering a Higher National Diploma , some flexibility may be allowed in terms of GCSE profile, but this must include grade C/4 or better in GCSE Mathematics.

This module provides you with an opportunity to develop an understanding and experience of commercially available engineering software and its practical applications to solve complex engineering problems. You will investigate the use of computer-aided design and simulation tools for a variety of engineering applications and develop skills in a variety of computer-aided design and simulation programs. In Year 1 you will study a set of modules that will provide a solid foundation for the second and third years of your degree. You will study a balanced range of current computing topics from the fundamentals of analysis and construction of systems, to the foundations of computer science. These subjects are focused on the key conventions of computation and programming, as well as the mathematical principles which underpin computer science and engineering. Our wide range of MEng and BEng undergraduate degree programmes provide you with a robust understanding of the principles of electronic and electrical engineering.
