The theory will be supported by workshops using professional imaging, and video editing software, as well as software tools for manipulating audio. Prototypes will be designed, created, and demonstrated, in accordance with UX design best practices and requirements will be captured as artefacts via UML models, use cases, user stories, wireframes and other practises. You’ll be able to participate in a 24-hour games creating team, Game Jams, and attend optional trips . Get an in-depth look at all the courses we offer and explore the benefits of undergraduate study. As an undergraduate student at Staffordshire, you may be eligible for additional financial support through one of our scholarships and bursaries.

However, a creative background is strongly recommended, and any experience with 3D modelling software or game engines is very welcome. Data that has relevance for decision-making is accumulating at an incredible rate due to a host of technological advances. Electronic data capture has become inexpensive and ubiquitous as a by-product of innovations such as the Internet, e-commerce, electronic banking, point-of-sale devices, bar-code readers, and electronic patient records. Data mining is a rapidly growing field that is concerned with developing techniques to assist decision-makers to make intelligent use of these repositories. The field of data mining has evolved from the disciplines of statistics and artificial intelligence. This module will combine practical exploration of data mining techniques with a exploration of algorithms, including their limitations.

Alternatively, you could work in more traditional computing or software engineering roles, start your own company or progress into further education. You’ll get to develop your programming expertise using C++, maths and problem solving. During the course you’ll study computer graphics, artificial intelligence , game mechanics and effective practical software development. Our students have won the Games Programming award at the Aardvark Swift ‘Search for a Star’ nationwide competition more than any other university. This module focuses on working with game prototypes and industry standard documentation.

  • This includes several “Tea & Testing” sessions during the year, which give students a safe space to playtest their games.
  • By the end of the module you will be able to approach modelling productions by drawing on a suite of 3D modelling methods and tools.
  • This module focuses on the fundamental techniques of key frame animation and the study of working with motion capture data to produce animations to be imported into a game engine.

All projects will be expected either to investigate or to make use of techniques that are at the leading edge of the field. Candidates will be asked to submit a project report on completion of the allotted project period . Projects will also include a viva where students will be required to demonstrate and defend their work. We also offer a four-year MComp degree which offers an optional additional sandwich year in industry. Both degrees emphasise software development for computer games, but the skills you learn will prepare you for any career in software engineering.

Learning more about all of these roles will also prepare you for industry, as you’ll be able to effectively communicate with the teams you work with. VR and AR solutions can also be used in conjunction with the Motion Capture Studio to create mixed or hyper reality experiences for a variety of industries and applications. Our VR, AR and Mixed Reality Labs can be used to create a range of experiences, including training, gaming, palliative care support and shopping experiences. Realistically capture multiple human movements simultaneously for the creation of high-quality games, animation and VFX sequences. Our industry standard facility features a 24-camera rig, Vicon hardware and Cara facial performance capture headset. Lectures and case studies on the following operational areas of the Games Industry.

You will be required to demonstrate sufficient proficiency at programming in a major language, such as C, C#, C++ or Java, before being accepted on the programme. This may take the form of test or – during an interview – a practical challenge to programme a well-known method or algorithm. I can apply everything I have studied at Goldsmiths, and every single day I learn more and more about programming and Unity Development. I was able to work on Sony’s Spark 2021, which was a virtual interactive showcase of their latest products. 15 creditsPlease note that due to staff research commitments not all of these optional modules may be available every year.

The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing has a specialist employability team. It provides friendly and high-quality careers and recruitment guidance, including advice and sessions on job-seeking skills such as CV preparation, application forms and interview techniques. Specific advice is also available for international students about the UK job market and employers’ expectations and requirements. Three pairs of large projector screens in the laboratory allow students to view the lecture material and the game being developed at the same time.

The first two years of this course join together with the BSc Computer Games Design degree, with the same core and optional modules. This is the BEng/MEng route of our Computer Games Design course, which allows you to study for an integrated Masters degree. This degree is perfect for anybody wishing to study Computer Games Design to an advanced level. The content for the first two years is the same as the BSc Computer Games Design degree, with the final year allowing a wider range of options to prepare you for Masters level study. Our facilities boast a hi-tech Vicon Motion Capture Studio, a specialist Games Centre, hundreds of PCs and game development possibilities with Sony, Vive, Oculus and more.
